Originally, the seed for Critter Kin started when I designed the invite for my sister’s baby shower in March of 2024. I was a bit directionless in my life at the time, having left a job and career path I had planned to have for the entirety of my twenties. Inspired by the birth of my niece (and her name), I started brainstorming designs and ideas to grow a small stationary shop.

Moreover, my grandfather always wrote notes to me, my cousins, and his children alike. It was his way of showing his love for us. Throughout my life, my mother followed his lead and sent me greeting cards, even if to just let me know she was thinking of me. I was molded by their encouragement, especially throughout my most difficult times. And for this reason, I believe in the power of the written word: sometimes, it’s much easier to write down what we fail to say out loud. Writing, at its core, is a way of understanding, both ourselves and each other.

While it had never been a dream of mine, it made sense as a next step in my life as a way to bring my love for art and writing together. I believe in the power of words and the images they create, as much as the meaning in pictures we struggle to find words for.

I hope you can join me on this new journey in my life to build my small stationary shop. Like any seedling, it needs lots of nurture and care; but, eventually, it might grow into something truly spectacular!
